Your very own Pooh Bear to inspire magical childhood memories.
Made in England from the finest honey mohair fur, Edward is a faithful modern replica of the real teddy that inspired AA Milne's famous stories featuring his son, Christopher Robin, and beloved bear Winnie the Pooh.
Plumply stuffed with a delicately clipped muzzle, square stitched nose, deep amber eyes and 100% wool felt paws trimmed by stitched claws, Edward is the perfect jointed bear to sit and pose, or tote about by his long arms that have upturned hands for holding.
This traditional golden teddy bear is complete with a 'growler' that gives Edward his friendly voice as his body is tipped back and forth.
Gorgeously sized for cuddling and so soft that you won't want to let him go, Edward is a proven forever bear and is sure to become a heirloom treasure with the Merrythought quality that is handmade to last generations.
Who is Edward?
Before Christopher Robin later renamed his favourite bear after "Winnipeg", the residing black bear at the London Zoo, Edward was a distinctive 'Alpha Bear' designed and made by JK Farnell.
This iconic bear design was first conceived in 1908 and later perfected in the 1920's to resemble the Edward we know today, as Farnell lead the way and became known as the original British Teddy Bear manufacturers during the pre-war era.
Alpha Bears were a true luxury item made of high quality materials and this sees them continue to be treasured by owners and collectors today. Surviving through a tricky time in history where resources became scarce, and where the factory was destroyed once by fire and later again by bombing in 1940, Farnell still continued trading until their closure in the 1960's.
The Farnell name was finally acquired by Merrythought in 1996 who continue to keep the legacy of the Alpha Bears alive from their own heritage factory in Shropshire, UK.
